Alberta Wambua has worked in the field of Gender Based Violence (GBV) for sixteen years; and currently works at the Gender Violence Recovery Centre a charitable trust as the Executive Director.<\/p>\n<p>In her years at GVRC she has implemented programs on Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response. She was involved in the medical services and psychosocial support emergency response during the conflicts in South Kivu in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mt. Her SGBV research has centered on developing evidence-based responses for different categories of survivors in the region (including women, girls and boys, and refugees) and promoting the utilization of these responses. He has over 10 years\u2019 experience in global health research, capacity building, training and teaching at university level. He has extensively researched on FGM\/C-a worst form of human rights violation in Kenya and regionally for example health impacts of FGM\/C, multi-site studies on medicalization of FGM\/C and diagnostic study on health system response to FGM\/C.<\/p>\n<p>He provides training, capacity building, evidence communication and advocacy to health providers, researchers, policy makers, programmers and implementers on abandonment of FGM\/C. He currently provides technical assistance to the SGBV programme and research initiatives under the Africa Regional SGBV Network and in humanitarian settings in the Eastern and Southern Africa (ESA) region. His SGBV work is focused on research, monitoring and evaluation of SGBV programs aimed at preventing violence against women and girls (VAWG) and children as well as strengthening the response to the needs of survivors.<\/p>\n<p>He is also currently involved in the Spotlight Initiative Africa Regional Programme activities that aim to strengthen implementation, monitoring and reporting on the African Union human rights instruments related to ending violence VAWG and harmful 14pt;\"><em><strong>Venue:<\/strong><\/em> Nairobi KENYA<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Ministry of Health (MOH) is convening the first ever scientific conference on Gender Based Violence (GBV) prevention and response conference from 8th-10th June 2022. The conference is dubbed <em><strong>\u201c<\/strong><\/em><em>Tackling Gender-Based Violence during Adversity; Beyond Timely Reaction<strong>\u201d<\/strong><\/em> . GBV has a direct negative impact on mental health, maternal and child health, HIV prevention and management as well morbidity (injuries) and mortality on individuals. Additionally, there are other direct and indirect impacts of GBV that are nested within other sectors. The COVID-19 pandemic exposed that most systems were unprepared to respond to the rapid escalation of different forms of GBV. As Kenya gets into the electioneering period, it is important to recognize that the season presents another increased risk of occurrence of GBV.<\/p>\n<p>During COVID-19, there were innovations towards responding and mitigating GBV across the 47 counties within the health sector and other sectors. It would be critical to harness these innovations applied during the intense COVID-19 period for peer learning. It is for this reason that the MoH is convening the first-ever scientific forum reinforce multisectoral response against sexual and gender-based violence in Kenya during adversity through the lens of Health. The conference will bring together an estimated 400 participants that include local scientists, government institutions, academia, health practitioners from private and public sector, donor and implementing partners, civil society, survivors of GBV, and policy makers.<\/p>\n<p>The Conference secretariat is calling for abstracts related to the 10 tracks. Each scientific track is divided into<br \/>\na number of track categories.
